Awesome Play

The script writing is brilliant. It delves into the mind of a man who is confused about himself and what his abilities are as an actor. It has, humor, drama, and excellent pacing. I actually cared about the characters and each action that a character committed led to more story.

Read the play. You wont be disappointed.

Awesome Love Story!

This was the first book i ever read by Ashland Price, and i must say it is still one of my favorites. I have reread this books so many times i'm afraid that it shall one day soon fall to piece in my hands. This books is filled excitement. Alanna is taken away from her homeland and thrust into the waiting arms of Storr, a strong Viking raider. Both are fierce and passionate characters. I enjoyed this so much, that evertime i read it i cannot set it down.

First of all, I am not a fan of ronamce novels. I found this book ata garage sale. But, its not like any other romace-type novel Ive ever read. Its mostly go a very interesting story-line which leads up to the romance. I have to rate this book very good, its something to enjoy again and again. ^-^

Good Viking Romance with Issues and a Disappointing Ending

Set in 815 A.D. on the coast of Ireland (Erin), this Viking romance tells the story of an Irish girl, Alanna, who is captured by a Viking, Storr, a chieftain who is scouting out the settlements to attack. For twenty years the Vikings had been raiding the coasts of Erin, and Alanna knew she needed to escape to warn her people. She escapes only to be recaptured when Storr raids her family's ring fort.

Alanna eventually is seen as a courageous, unselfish girl, though she is terribly naïve and even stupid about some things and that was most annoying in the beginning. For example, she was ignorant as to a comb's purpose even after it was demonstrated for her. Though she had planned her escape from Storr, she had given no thought in which direction she should ride to get home. All this from a girl who plays chess! I found that bizarre. When she explains her Christian faith to the Viking, she gets it a bit wrong, too. No wonder Storr was confused. Perhaps the author intended that impression of ignorance, as if the Irish Catholics understood little of the faith they believed in. Alanna didn't explain the incarnation very well, for example. Still, it was interesting seeing the Viking struggle with concepts foreign to his own faith.

You have to get nearly three fourths of the way through the book before you see any real chemistry between Alanna and Storr. Since Storr lost the bride he loved, he really wasn't interested in other woman and had taken a vow of chastity (this from a Viking?). He and Alanna become friends and that allows her to avoid the rape her cousins experience (we are spared the details). But the romance is very slow in developing.

Price tells a good tale and kept me turning pages as she drew me into the Viking and Irish culture of the 9th century. Aside from the issues discussed already, the main reason I could not give this story 5 stars is the ending. It is abrupt and left issues unresolved: two villains not dealt with; the fate of her cousin who escaped and was recaptured; etc. She uses an epilogue to throw some closure at us but it was very disappointing. Notwithstanding the 474 pages, I felt like she stopped writing before it was finished.

In keeping with the organization of the conference, this book contains introductory lectures on each of the conference themes and research articles on current topics in these fields. The introductory lectures are suitable for graduate students and new Ph.D.'s in both mathematics and theoretical physics, as well as for senior researchers, since few mathematicians are expert in any two of the conference areas. Among the topics discussed in the introductory lectures are the appearance of multiple zeta values both as periods of motives and in Feynman integral calculations in perturbative QFT, the use of Hopf algebra techniques for renormalization in QFT, and regularized traces of pseudodifferential operators. The motivic interpretation of multiple zeta values points to a fundamental link between motives and QFT, and there are strong parallels between regularized traces and Feynman integral techniques. The research articles cover a range of topics in areas related to the conference themes, including geometric, Hopf algebraic, analytic, motivic and computational aspects of quantum field theory and mirror symmetry. There is no unifying theory of the conference areas at present, so the research articles present the current state of the art pointing towards such a unification. Titles in this series are co-published with the Clay Mathematics Institute (Cambridge, MA).

This book is a very good contribution to the mathematical physics of pseudodifferential operator theory

This book is a very good contribution to the mathematical physics of pseudodifferential operator theory. Most of us in mathematical physics discover and see the intuitive concept of a motive in the Atiyah-Singer theorem, anomalies, index theory and Chern-Weil theory. Quite obviously you sum differential forms of different degrees, and so we see sums of objects corresponding to different dimensions. Same thing with the Dyson expansion, there you see motives. Also in string theory it is natural to consider branes of different dimensions at the same time, so again motives arise.

Now, pseudodifferential operator theory is among other things relevant to achieve and analyze asymptotics of operators in Quantum Field Theory, (QFT). It has a very obvious relation to QFT, and one of the very interesting things is that there are workhorse theorems that allow you to compute asymptotics via simple differentiation with respect to phase space(symplectic or tangent bundle) coordinates. This book introduces the reader to this without being too technical, and may be a first reading in this interesting subject.

Now, inasfar as this book, I would like to recommend it (strongly).The people that were in that conference are among the foremost in mathematical physics. The only pitty is that there are so few books of this nature and relevance. Also, it helps seeing recent trends in mathematical physics.

Salem Witch Trials by Lori Lee Wilson is a fantastic book that informs yet entertains the reader. It has so many facts and real stories that are animated in your head. The court stories swim into you, making you wonder how so many women and men could be accused of such a thing. Their own children even testified against them! The history of witchcraft is such a fascinating thing, knowing that so long ago, people were worshipping so joyously and freely. I would recommend this book to everyone that wants to know more about our nation's history of the witch trials!

Salem Witch Trials is a straight forward uninteresting book.

When I began reading Salem Witch Trials by Lori Lee Wilson I noticed that it was very factual. I kept reading and hoped it would come up with something interesting, but still nothing that interested me. All I got out of this book was a bland display of boring facts no different form a textbook. I would recommend this to anyone doing a report about the subject and needs nothing but info.

This book had a lot of factual information about the witch trials and the happenings that led up to them. The book reflects on the beliefs of magic and the religious impact on witchcraft. I would recommend this book for someone who wasn't knowlegeable on witchcraft and how it carries on to modern day.

A great book

This is a great book for my five year old son. The photos are quite good -- not the low quality, stock photos that you find in some children's books. The text is nice, but perhaps a bit basic; my son would enjoy learning additional info about tanks.

Perfect to Encourage Boys to Read

The title says is all. Boys love tanks. Not all boys love reading. When your boy realizes that they can learn about Tanks - if they can read the book - their effort level will soar. Great for K-1st grade level. My son is starting 1st grade this fall and can already read this book out loud to me (a dramatic role reversal for story time).
