Appended to these four sections is a brief geographical description of all of Spanish America, with special emphasis on the indigenous peoples of New Granada (roughly modern-day Colombia), followed by a short guide to the southern coasts and heavens. This first English-language edition of The Indian Militia includes an extensive introduction, a posthumous report on Vargas Machuca’s military service, and a selection from his unpublished attack on the writings of Fray Bartolomé de Las Casas.

Grade 5-8-- While both books offer an abundance of full-color action photos, Mountain Biking provides little practical information. The chapter on machinery mainly discusses clothing, and the chapter on maintenance gives general advice on cleaning, lubrication, and adjustments, but does not explain how to do any of these things. Allen repeatedly tells readers to look elsewhere for answers. They should take his suggestion, and turn to Rob Van der Plas's The Mountain Bike Book (Bicycle Bks., 1990), which is far more informative and comprehensive. Backpacking is a better effort. Holmes explains things simply, yet in enough detail for beginners looking to buy hiking boots and proper clothing, fit a backpack, plan an outing, and select a campsite. He stresses preparation, conditioning, and common sense. Chapters on survival skills and the use of topographic maps and orienteering compasses are very useful. Understanding the comic masterpieces of Aristophanes

This Cliffs Notes volume looks at four comedies by Aristophanes, but begins by looking at the three great Greek writers of tragedy, Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides, in order to put the work of the comic playwright in appropriate context. "Lysistrata," the celebrated anti-war play, is covered by providing a List of Characters, followed by Summaries and Commentaries on each scene of the play. However, the other three plays by Aristophanes are covered without breaking the plays into discrete units (although the authors do discuss the specific structure of Greek plays in their analysis of "The Birds"). For two of the plays, "The Birds" and "The Frogs," there are specific points of analysis signposted in the commentary section, but for the most part this little yellow book with the black stripes deals with these plays comprehensively. Those who like to find specific sections dealing with particular literary elements will find this volume to be a little less user-friendly. As always, the analysis is first rate, especially if you have read the plays are therefore able to absorb the additional insights.

"Aristophanes' Lysistrata: The Birds, The Clouds, The Frogs (Cliffs Notes)" - I only used these "Cliffs Notes" for the play "Lysistrata." I didn't find it extremely helpful. Symbolism, themes, and motifs weren't clearly stated. I do not recommend.

Good primer on the country

Keeping in mind that this book was written for the youth market it still makes a valuable book for learning about this African country. Understandably, the book gives only the briefest description of the issues involved in the recent civil war but I accept that as I feel that this should be dealt with as a seperate book. I didn't care much for the actual layout of the book, which I felt was trying to emulate internet style. A book should be a book.

Through playful rhymes, the book explains basic concepts such as, No amount gets smaller when you're working in addition. The numbers climb from low to high 'cause that's addition's mission! Children count bubbles, rings, school buses, baseballs, baby-sitters, eggs, and musicians in this fun introduction, which also covers terms that are indicative of the operation: ‘Equals' can be used like ‘is,' or ‘totals,' even ‘makes.' It doesn't matter if you're adding friends or birthday cakes. Silly cartoons of the catlike cast in flat colors are outlined in black ink. It is sometimes difficult to count the objects such as bubbles, which float individually in the air as well as fill the tub in a solid mass. While 10 baby-sitters are introduced in one segment, they are sometimes difficult to differentiate from their charges and are never pictured together for youngsters to count. The final spread challenges readers to solve five simple addition problems, only two of which include tangible objects to count. Without memorizing number facts, it may be difficult to make the jump from three eggs plus two eggs equal five eggs to 6+5=? Good step by step explanation of coins and bills, short and brief, good rhymes. Could use a little more details behind the math - but you can also see all the coins and bills and do the math by looking at the illustrations. 5yr loves it, even made himself fake paper money to play with his cash register and 'sell things at the store'

Not Worth The Price

This is a children's cookbook, so be forewarned (something I did not realize when I purchased the item). While the instructions and introduction to Brazil are "nice enough", the number of recipes are sorely lacking. This book does not give a reasonable cultural or recipe sampling for the asking price.

I lived in Brazil for a number of years and was looking for a recipe book that was in English to share with friends and family that do not speak Portuguese, as well as recipes that I remember from my time there that I do not have in my collection. This book did not meet that expectation in the least.

I was definitely expecting something much more intensive and voluminous. Even as a children's book it is light on the recipes.

Not worth the money whatsoever. You would be better off printing recipes out online. What a disappointment.

Complete rip off - do not buy! Nao comprar!

$25.00 for a 72 page book? What are the publishers thinking? What was I thinking when I ordered it? I expected a full-fledged cookbook, something with chapters and many recipes per chapter. There are exactly 18 recipes in this child-sized volume. I see on the back of the "book" that Lerner Books offers over thirty titles in this "easy menu ethnic" series. Incredible that they can sell so little for so much. It is the only title I have ever returned to amazon.

awesome product, my brother lived in brazil for 2 years and wasvery excited to get this book. it had many if not all his favorite recipes for his favorite dishes from when he lived there.
