His comparison highlights similarities between sexual rights movements in Mexico and Brazil, including a convergence on legislative priorities such as antidiscrimination laws and the legal recognition of same-sex couples. At the same time, de la Dehesa points to notable differences in the tactics deployed by activists and the coalitions brought to bear on the state.

De la Dehesa studied the archives of activists, social-movement organizations, political parties, religious institutions, legislatures, and state agencies, and he interviewed hundreds of individuals, not only LGBT activists, but also feminists, AIDS and human-rights activists, party militants, journalists, academics, and state officials. He marshals his prodigious research to reveal the interplay between evolving representative institutions and LGBT activists’ entry into the political public sphere in Latin America, offering a critical analysis of the possibilities opened by emerging democratic arrangements, as well as their limitations. At the same time, exploring activists’ engagement with the international arena, he offers new insights into the diffusion and expression of transnational norms inscribing sexual rights within a broader project of liberal modernity. Disappointed too!

This was definately sparse on the recipes. It is very basic (and I was a bit surprised to see that in the publication info at the front of the book, it's also listed under "juvenile literature"). There is good info on Vietnam, it's customs, people, etc., but a full half of the book concentrated on that and a few silly things like describing the term "boil". Definately not enough recipes. A grand total of 24 recipes, including how to cook rice and recipes for simple sauces. I'm disappointed with this (and the book "Cooking the Thai Way" which I ordered with it) but hate to return things so I'll just have to make the dozen or so recipes that interest me. Then get a nice, comprehensive Vietnamese cookbook where I can preview it before buying! This was my first online book purchase...

Disappointment!

Just right after receiving the book, I took a look and was very disappointed immediately: "Is this all ?"The book is thin and carry almost of half for unnessary general introduction. There are not much especial and interesting recipes which you can find from the other practical and attentive book .
Perhaps because of the price so is that all we can get for what we pay?
For really really really beginner that may work.

This book is very disappointing! Very few recipes and a lot of pages wasted on things such as warning the reader to be careful while cooking. Is it really necessary to include a recipe on how to make steamed rice? This book also claimed to include vegetarian recipes, but very few were provided. Some of recipes look promissing, but really not worth buying because there are too few recipes and too many page fillers.

I actually bought this book in a used bookstore, in Chicago thirty years ago. I had a one day layover at O'hare so ventured out for some shopping. I bought the book for my wife. She had been suffering from RA since sixteen and was about to go to a wheelchair.
When I returned home we had a spirited discussion and decided to try the plan. It was rough because she doesn't like seafood but we gave it a try and it worked. She is now in her late 60's and has been able to live a productive life, including raising two great kids and a grandson.

This book is the only reason I am active and healthy today.

In my late 20's I was diagnosed with severe crippling rheumatoid arthritis and told to prepare for life in a wheelchair. For five years I was in constant pain in spite of daily medication. One day I found an early edition of this book and began the diet it describes. Within three weeks I was able to discontinue medication. As long as I stick to the diet I am still pain free. There is no sign of arthritis in my body. At age 52 I am more active and youthful than many women my age. I recommend that every arthritic read this book and try the diet. It gave me back my life and it might work for you, too.

The Arthritic's cookbook

I have been following the advice in this book for the past three weeks for a sore knee. I no longer take ibiprophen to control the pain { it didn't help much anyway } I also massage my knee with peanut oil which is an old Edgar Casey remedy for non-compliant clients. One or the other or both works.

The recipes are easy to follow. You get quite enough to eat with only fish and vegetables. And you lose weight. All my skirts pass the zipper test now { French Women Don't Get Fat }

I'mll thoroughly delighted with the book. I have looked for it for years and now it is mine.
