Not Great, but Not Bad Either

Basically not a bad book to read, but not great either, I thought the story could have been better written and the characters given more depth, especially the men as they have been written as if they think and feel the same as women!
Good if you don't have anything else to read though.

I really like this book.

The history of the time and the Viking conquests was well described within this book. Warriors tho they be, it was good to see what went on in their minds when they truly fell in love. Natasha's character had a lot of strength and fire, and Sean transformed well from the Monestary scholar, to the adventuring Viking.

If you want to learn a little about the Vikings, and enjoy reading about men that can be fierce, but also tender with their true loves, read this series!

The root of the problem

Beets beat everyone to the punch. Forgive the corny (hmm...) joke. Even though this book is mainly orientated to children, adults with little knowledge on this subject can benefit. The book is a very good introduction to learning about potatoes, cassava, carrots, beets, radishes, and turnips; how they grow, where they grow, and the dependences that various peoples across the world have on them. With the above being said, this book should not be misconstrued to be a gardening book, because it is not. It has some growing projects, but that is for learning predominately, not for feeding your tummy. The book does contain cooking projects, though, so get cooking (I'm hungry). It provides interesting, colorful pictures and illustrations, which are also not predominately for eating (whoops!). Did I bring up the history? Let us get to it. The history provide with each vegetable is interesting and informative, but as it is lined with timetables that are influenced by evolutionary beliefs, use critical skepticism in evaluating the information.

The conclusion is...this book is mostly for kids, and if you are a kid, get off of that computer, pronto (Just kidding)! If you are looking for a book that does a great job introducing the subject of roots and tubers, this could very well be your book. If you can, though, try to get this out of your local library before you purchase it to find out if you like it.

It's a unique play that can satirize and still be realistic.

This play is ridiculous and is still not over the top considering the subject matter is protesters. The humor is rampant and at the same time there is an element of truth throughout that grounds the levity and keeps this from being lighter than air. It's funny the other reviewer cites a male monologue, when the the feature really is two marathon female monologues in the first ten pages. This is a character play of the highest magnitude and this is coming from Nicky silver, the epitome of flamboyant character writers. Hey, when you're good, you're good.

Hilarious and captivating

This play is a fantastic comedy/drama mix that will have everyone rolling in tears (maybe) and laughter. I first saw this play translated in Greece and the performance was stupendous. In fact it stayed with me for six years and now that I read the original it didn't fail to bring up the same emotions.
The Altruists is about five characters, revolutionaries, who rally for good causes, but when Sydney, the self-obsessed soap opera actress kills her husband it brings a whole set of events in motion resulting in the false incrimination of one character as they step out of the house to rally for the death penalty of another falsely accused man.
The play is ironic, witty, fast paced with its heartbreaking moments shining all the way through. Highly recommended.

Not the most intriguing Nicky Silver play. It's not as compelling as his others. But the price was fair, the condition of the copy was great, and it arrived quickly.
