From School Library Journal
Grade 6-9?In chronicling the life of the former heavyweight champion, Schulman provides an accurate, though undocumented, account that breaks no new ground. A cursory look at Ali's youth and post-boxing activities sandwich the bulk of the book, which deals with his career and his Muslim beliefs and civil-rights activities. Photographs, the majority in black and white, are found throughout the text. Curiously, there is no mention of Parkinson's disease, from which many members of the medical profession believe Ali suffers at the present. The author does point out that despite troubles in expressing himself, "the Greatest" still is able to think clearly. Though published almost 20 years ago, Robert Lipsyte's Free to Be Muhammad Ali (HarperCollins, 1978) is still a good read. Arthur Diamond's Muhammad Ali (Lucent, 1995) and Tom Conklin's Muhammad Ali (Millbrook, 1992) are both similar in scope to Schulman's title.?Tom S. Hurlburt, La Crosse Public Library, WI

ALI
By A Customer
The book Muhammad Ali by Arlene Schuman tells about his life and hardships he faced. The author writes about Ali's success in the sport of boxing, and the problems that came with it. This book also describes about how difficult it was being black at that time.

Mrs. Schuman begins the story telling us about Muhammad Ali, then known as Cassius Clay, as a young boy in Louisville, Kentucky. She writes about how his dream was to become a professinal boxer.

What i really liked about the book is how the author assembled the book. The book has many photographs of Muhammad Ali, both in color and black and white. It really gave me a clear picture in my head of what it was like.

The book goes through all of his most important fights and introduces you to his opponents, too. I also admired when the author tells the reader when Ali makes a life changing decsion to convert to the Muslim faith. This is because he refused to serve in the ared forces because of his beliefs.

If you read the short story you will find out that Ali wasn't just a boxer, he was a man with a deep conviction and lived his life that way. He also was a man of many talents and not just in the boxing ring. He was a politcal man, a wonderful singer, and had a quick mind for poetry, which he alos used to describe an opponents.

I recommend this book to any sports fans and any people who like to read inspirational stories!

DULL
By A 12-year old reader
Dull
The book Muhammad Ali: Champion is a boring biography of Muhammad Ali. This book tells about what Ali has been through and mainly about his boxing career.
I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone. If you've heard of Ali and want to know more about him this would not be the book to get. Once you start reading this book it's kind of interesting but as you get to the middle it gets slow. I didn't this book because as I was reading it I lost my interest.
